Whittington Village. Extract taken from the Ordnance Survey 25 inch plan of 1898. The Webster School, is in the upper centre of the image on the right hand side of Church Street. The Webster Schools transferred to the Derbyshire County Council Education Authority in December 1906, following the Education Act 1902. This is now Mary Swanwick Community Primary School, which is managed by the Learners’ Trust multi-academy trust. Mary Swanwick was a former Governor of the Webster Charity.

Eligible Areas

To be eligible for a grant, your permanent/home address must be in the former parish of Whittington, (this includes New Whittington, Old Whittington, Sheepbridge, the east side of Whittington Moor and the Brushes).

The former parish boundary falls within the following post codes and areas:

  • part of S41 8** to the east of Sheffield Road/B6057, Whittington Moor,
  • part of S41 9** to the east of Rivers Drone and Whitting, The Brushes and Sheepbridge and north of Albert Street North, Whittington Moor, and
  • part of S43 2** to the west of Slag Lane, Parkgate Lane and the eastern extent of New Whittington.

Please view the interactive map below showing the former Whittington parish boundary in red, in the context of present day mapping. You can zoom in and out, pan around the map and expand the map to full screen view to check out whether you live within the former parish. The parish boundary is based on that shown on the Ordnance Survey 1:2500 scale plan, (25 inch), 1881-1885, from which it was digitised, with some minor adjustments which take account of the modern built environment.
